Even in the desert of Arizona, there are many joints to enjoy a slice of pizza. Yo Pauly’s New York Pizza Company in Scottsdale stands out not only because of its food, but because of the experience. It’s located in a small strip mall near 90th Street and Via Linda. The inside is decorated in scant décor of a New York street corner. Ceramic tiles on one wall with permanent marker writings on them, and a mural of the New York City skyline on the other.

Upon entering, the owner, Pauly, was jovial and inviting; he himself sitting at a table enjoying the company of other patrons. He was more than happy to make our first experience a good one. A free basket of Old School Garlic Knots made its way to the table compliments of Pauly. Classic, doughy, garlic-y goodness with a side of marinara. Then the pizza. A 14”, half Cheese Louise and half Whitestone Bridge. Thin, NY style pizza with a crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside crust. Tasty mozzarella cheese and red sauce on one side, and delicious garlic, ricotta, spinach, tomatoes, and olive oil on the other. The menu is well rounded with other pizza pies, wings, calzones, salads, sandwiches and desserts. They also offer family meal, take-out, and delivery options.

A local, non-pretentious and unassuming restaurant, Yo Pauly’s is one of the best casual, neighborhood establishments to go for true New York slice.
