Street Eats! Food Truck Festival
More than 50 food trucks were parked at Salt River Fields for a weekend of Food and Fun. $12 got you inside the event which had live bands, eating competitions, kiddie activities, and cooking demonstrations. WSWE was there for one thing: The Food Trucks. Once inside the festival, you could purchase tokens worth $2 each which could be used on food or drinks. As we walked around the fest we noticed most of the food trucks were taking cash or credit cards as well as the tokens…and it was time for us to stuff our faces!
We started at Devilicious
This California-based truck was featured on “The Great Food Truck Race” and is known for their Lobster Grilled Cheese. Of course we ordered the Lobster Grilled Cheese but we also had to try the Crab Cake Sandwich. Both sandwiches were fantastic with generous portions of shellfish. The grilled cheese was melty & stringy perfection with chunks of lobster. The English muffin bun and spicy aioli were excellent compliments to the meaty crab cake. Both sandwiches were rich and decedent delights!
Next was Rooster’s Kountry Kitchen Fried Chicken
Rooster’s is a brand new food truck serving marinated fried chicken from local meat purveyors. The sample included a fried chicken leg and potato salad. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. This was fried chicken at its best with all the traditional flavors you crave in this American favorite. The potato salad was a perfect side with smoky bacon accents. Kountry Goodness!
We then moved onto Jozarelli’s Italian Cuisine
This Tucson based gourmet food truck serves authentic Italian street fare. They were offering three Italian Sandwiches: Italian Beef, Italian Chicken and Meatloaf. All sandwiches were tasty, but we voted that our favorite was the Italian Beef. Delizioso!
Next stop was Gourmet Command Center
This family-run food truck looks like a SWAT vehicle and is known for their Philly Cheesesteaks. They only use top-quality fresh ingredients and claim their food is so good, it almost breaks the law. We ordered the Cheese Balls and boy, we are glad we did! Crispy and seasoned on the exterior with a gooey cheesy interior.
Then we were off to Tornado Potato
This creative food truck is known for their potatoes, twisted thin and skewered on a stick. We went with the fried zucchini. It was spiraled, skewered, fried and fun to eat!
Next stop was Comfort Cravings
Serving food out of a GMC that was once an Oregon SWAT vehicle, this food truck takes classic comfort foods and gives them new, exciting twists. We ordered Spicy Shrimp, Chorizo with Fontana Polenta. This was spectacular! The shrimp and chorizo had a spicy kick as the creamy polenta cooled and completed the dish.
Last stop was Frank.
Premium gourmet hot dogs. Frank offers dogs of all kinds; all-beef, smoked Polish, brat, chicken apple sausage and veggie. After much debating we decided on the California Dreamin and The Maine Squeeze. The California Dreamin we ordered with the all-beef hotdog and was loaded with caramelized onions, fresh greens, bacon and avocado on a brioche bun. The Maine squeeze we ordered with a Smoked Polish dog and it was topped with chipotle lobster mac n cheese, panko, lemon zest gremolta on a pretzel bun. WOW! These Dogs were DELICIOUS! Inventive ingredients with flavorful quality meat. You could tell by their long line that Frank was a favorite at this event.
