One of the Valley’s most treasured restaurants, Tomaso’s, is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Mayor Greg Stanton declared Sept. 29 Tomaso’s Day to honor the decades of success for Chef Tomaso Maggiore and his original restaurant concept. The fine dining restaurant has not skipped a beat over the years and, as we partook in the special anniversary luncheon, we were reminded why this restaurant has continued to please since 1977.
Residing in its original Camelback Corridor location on 32nd Street and Camelback Road, little has changed since Tomaso’s first opened its doors and one can still expect the signature white-glove experience. The aromas of homemade pasta and sauces permeate from the kitchen and Chef Maggiore continues to hold the title of Best Italian Restaurant in the Valley.
We were excited to dive into our four-course luncheon!
First course
Field greens salad: Arugula, tomatoes, cucumbers with herb vinaigrette.
Second course
Casarecce with langostino and pesto trapanese: Trapanese pesto with vine ripened tomatoes, almonds, Romano cheese and basil.
Third course
Lemon prawns: Butterfly prawns, lemon caper sauce, cauliflower and ricotta croquette in pistachio crust and asparagus.
Fourth course
Dessert bite: Strawberries filled with ricotta cream and chocolate sauce.
The meal was divine. Each bite was bursting with vibrant zest but also tapped into Old World flavors. This is Italian cuisine at its best.
I wasn’t surprised to learn after this satisfying lunch that Tomaso’s has served more than 1.9 million people and more than 292,000 meatballs!
Don’t worry, you can join in the celebration as well. Every Monday beginning Oct. 3 through September 2017, guests can order off the 40th anniversary menu.
The throwback menu is made up of the originals that debuted four decades ago, along with their original price tags! Spaghetti and meatballs ($12), eggplant torte and butternut squash ravioli ($16) and medallion of veal tenderloin a la Sorrentina ($18) are some favorites.
The outstanding customer service and authentic Italian cuisine at this Phoenix gem will continue to shine as diners flock to Tomaso’s for another 40 years!
