He Said

A small cafe in the usual Phoenix strip mall, and situated next to an IMX Pilates studio. Who would have guessed I would discover the best turkey sandwich I have ever had. I have to lead with this sandwich because it is was comforting and brought back memories of thanksgiving with my family. I kid you not that they cook a fresh turkey daily. Not just any turkey but a rosemary rubbed turkey that is moist and juicy. Because that isn’t enough it is covered in avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, mixed greens, Pesto mayo, Havarti cheese, Bacon and balsamic onion marmalade. Convinced yet that this sandwich is enough to pay a visit to Bertha’s? Well if not than they have a good selection of other sandwiches wraps, and salads all worthy of trying. But until I get tired of turkey I will have a hard time moving past this sandwich.

I don’t want to remove focus from their pastry case because there are a ton of sweet treats that make me salivate while I stare at them waiting for my food. But one again brings childhood memories back only this time in a more adult version. Homemade pop tarts. Trembling with anticipation yet? They only make these treats on Saturday, so time your visit right. I don’t know if the flavors vary, but when I visited it was a cinnamon filling in between two flakely pastry pieces. It even had the hard frosting on the top piece, just like our childhood and maybe even an occasional adult quick breakfast splurge. But this take on the breakfast pastry is far and above anything I had as a kid. Bertha’s has me hooked. Thank god for me, they are 5 minutes away.

She Said

Bertha’s has been voted “Best Cookie” by several different sources throughout the years. So when I happened to be driving by and saw the red Bertha’s sign one day I HAD to pull in! I bought a Malted Chocolate cookie bar, and a Cranberry White Chocolate cookie. Both were MAGNIFICENT!  I can’t wait to go back and try a sandwich, salad or more sweet treats!
